In March of this year I restructured the pricing model to measure from the ground to shoulder. I have never priced by breed, as so many breeders do not breed to standards, it was an unfair system. Pricing by weight of dog for grooming also creates unfair pricing as some taller dogs were not being charged enough for the time spent grooming them. So this year I shifted gears to measuring your dogs. Some of you who have been with me the longest may have only seen a $5 increase, sometimes $10, and I never measured the dogs. You all were grandfathered in as longtime customers. Unfortunately going into the […]

Nosework Group Classes
Nosework Is the Secret to a Calm, Happy Dog You’ve Never Heard Of Nosework is an activity that taps into your dog natural desire to hunt by harnessing their unique ability to detect scent and determine the source. In training, dogs learn to find one of three hidden scents (birch, anise and clove). Nosework classes are set up so reactive dogs can still play! Nosework is excellent for high-energy dog because it provides mental stimulation as well as enrichment. Nosework is fantastic for senior dogs. The bonding opportunities are endless! No prior experience needed, but leash training is suggested. Classes are taught by Mary Kiskern, a certified dog trainer with the Karen […]
Continue readingWe Now Offer Dog Training!
The key to a balanced dog is a well-trained dog. When you train together, an unspoken language builds between you through words, hand signals, whistles and other methods. A well-behaved dog is a joy to live with, and proper dog training helps ensure that your pup can participate in almost everything you do together. Whether your goal is puppy socialization and or participating in dog sports, training is key to making your dog more confident and comfortable in a variety of situations. It’s also a lot of fun for both people and dogs. Dog training is also a considerable part of responsible dog ownership, but getting started in training might be confusing. The […]
Continue readingWe Are All Together Again!
I want to shout out to my amazing crew, yesterday was our first day all working together in our new location. We are so grateful for everyone’s continued support and patience during this transition. I am blessed to have such an amazing group of women willing to show up for this pet community. Being able to provide job security and living wages is one of the greatest things I have done as a business owner. I was able to set up retirement accounts for my team and by the end of this year I will be assisting with their medical care premiums. Reinvesting back into my employees makes sense to […]
Continue readingSonny’s Spaw Changes in 2022
2022 will be bringing a lot of changes to Sonny’s Spaw. We are expanding by adding a Self Wash location in Sequim. This means I, Mary, won’t be around the salon anymore. Please remember to allow my staff plenty of grace during this transition. Sharon will be taking on the role of manager in my absence. If you have questions or concerns, kindly direct them to her. If you are unable to resolve the issue with her, she will refer you to me. Regardless of the issue, I do insist on my staff being treated with respect. A lot of you have been with me since the beginning and I […]

Ladies. Gentleman. Dogs. Cats! I am excited to introduce you to our new groomer, Brandi! Brandi is Sharon’s daughter, she’s moving here to be closer to her mom. And lucky for us, she LOVES dogs as much as her mom. The lines are open, we will be scheduling her with dogs starting this week. She’s also a cat groomer. Brandi will be working Saturday’s and Monday’s right now, maybe Thursdays, and taking my Fridays where possible. Please do not worry. If any appointments are cancelled due to weather, injury or illness the following will apply: If you are on a yearly grooming schedule of every 6 weeks or less, you will have to wait for your next appointment. If you are not on a yearly schedule, you will be rescheduled at the next available appointment. Please note that will most likely be 4-6 weeks out. I understand this may seem harsh. I understand you all believe your pet to be the most important pet, and while I agree, I have to consider the mental well being of my staff too. There are many factors that play into our job, one […]
Continue readingWelcome Michele!
We are thrilled to welcome Michele Feris to the Sonny’s Spaw family. She starts April 1st and Sharon and I are verrry happy to have another groomer on board. Meet Michele: “I am from Everett, WA. I have a fiance and a sweet Blue pitty named Louis (pronounced lou-ee). I have been grooming dogs going on two years, I was a bather for several years before that. I was asked to come bathe for a friend’s shop and I fell in love with the environment and working with dogs all day. Becoming a groomer was the promotion I worked hard for, learning as much as I could to achieve my goal. […]
